I had to call my mom because sometimes she tells me that we need to talk on the phone. I made her start texting me first to tell me that nothing was wrong before she said she wanted to call so I wouldn't worry. On Friday I told her about how I had made a new friend the night before. I don't usually go out because I get shy. I got over it and talked to someone who I hadn't talked to since I got to school. We used to not get along, but then we talked while sitting on the stairs. He told me about how he didn’t do as much visual arts as he used to, how he didnt want to make things because someone he felt like he should. He said he was taking dance classes. That he liked not making anything. He said he stopped smoking weed. My mom said it was great when people stopped using drugs to hide from who they were.
Even though there are less than a thousand kids at school, it's common to have conversations with people where you think you've become friends, then never speak again.
On Saturday I went to another party with my girlfriend. She doesn't get shy. She doesn't understand why I would get shy. We ran into another friend and he told us about playing tennis earlier in the afternoon. My girlfriend said that she was hungry and I said that we should go to mcdonalds.
Our friend told us about how the fine for littering was more expensive than the fine for having an open container. I don't know how you determine whether someone is drunk or if they are too drunk to drive. I've heard stories about people driving so drunk they have to cover one eye. That was not the case.
When we got back to the party with mcdonalds we didn't know what to do with it, it was a little cold outside. Someone invited us upstairs and we sat in someone's bedroom with a group of younger kids that my girlfriend kind of knows.
My girlfriend ate french fries and smoked a cigarette by the window. My friend ordered me fries even though I don't eat fries. Someone was starving sitting on the floor, I gave the fries to him.
At home my girlfriend and I thought about watching tv but instead we looked at each other and joked around. “Did you believe in monsters when you were younger?”
“Of course,” I said.
“What did you do?”
“I made a rule, I let myself believe that the monsters were real, because it seemed unproductive to try to change that, but i added that the monsters could be killed by being exposed to light, by turning on the light before I got into the room and making sure i turned on the light in the closet all the monsters were gone, then i could go to sleep.”
“Where do you think they came from? Like a hole in the wall?”
“What?”
“Where do you think the monsters came from?”
“I never thought about it?” I had never thought about where the monsters had come from.
